How it works

You send the details

Use the quote form or call. The useful things to have ready are the rough length in metres, the height you want, how many gates, and whether an old fence needs to come out. Photos of the boundary help more than anything else.

Not sure of the length? Pace it out — one comfortable stride is close enough to a metre for a first estimate.
You get an estimate

We come back to you with an estimate based on what you have described and what we can see in the photos. If something in the description will change the price significantly — a retaining wall, poor access, a shared boundary — we tell you at this point rather than at the end.
Free site measure

If the estimate is in the range you expected, we come out and measure properly. This is free and there is no obligation. We check the ground, the access, the existing fence, where the gates want to be, and any levels that affect how the fence is set out.

This is also when you can ask the questions that are hard to answer over the phone.
Firm quote and start date

You get a firm quote against the measured job, and an estimated start date. Nothing is ordered and nothing happens on site until you say yes.
Old fence out

Existing fencing and brick walls can be removed and disposed of. Old palings, rails, posts and footings come out and go with us. If a section needs to stay up for a dog or a pool, tell us and we stage the work around it.
Posts in

Each post is set 600mm deep into the ground, secured with at least one full 20kg bag of concrete per post. Posts can be filled with concrete up to one third of their length for extra strength. Posts are set to a string line so the fence runs true, and gate posts are sized for the gate they will carry.

Timber posts or 65mm × 65mm steel posts, depending on the fence and the site.
Rails, palings and gates

Rails go on, then the palings in the style you chose — single paling, lap & cap, lapped only or hardwood. Gates are built and hung to suit the opening, with the hardware sized for the leaf.
Clean up and walk through

Offcuts, old material and spoil leave with us. We walk the finished line with you before we go so anything you are not happy with gets sorted on the spot.

Before you call

Four numbers that get you a real estimate

Length. Metres along the boundary you want fenced. Pacing it out is fine.
Height. Common timber fence heights are 1.5m, 1.8m, 2.1m and 2.4m.
Gates. How many, and roughly how wide the openings are.
Old fence. Whether one needs removing, and what it is made of.

Add a few photos of the boundary — including the ends and any slope — and the estimate you get back will be close to the final quote.

Process questions

Does the site measure cost anything?

No. The site measure and the quote are free, and there is no obligation to go ahead afterwards.

How long does a timber fence take to build?

A standard 30 metre timber fence, including demolition and removal of the existing fence, typically takes 1 to 3 days. Longer runs, difficult access, retaining work and multiple gates all add time, and weather can move a start date.

Do I need to be home while the fence is built?

Not usually, as long as we have access to the boundary and somewhere to work. We will let you know if there is a decision that needs you on site, such as exactly where a gate should swing.

What do I need to sort out with my neighbour?

Boundary fences are generally a shared matter between neighbours in NSW, including how the cost is handled. We can quote the work either way, but the agreement itself is between you and the adjoining owner. It is worth having that conversation before we start.

Can you work around a pool, pet or garden?

Yes, but tell us before the measure so it can be planned. Pool areas in particular need care, because temporary fencing or staging may be needed while the old fence is out.
