What can be removed

Existing fencing and brick walls can be safely removed and disposed of.

• Old timber paling, lapped and capped fencing
• Brick walls and masonry boundary structures
• Concrete footings from the fence being removed
• Old gates and gate posts

Footings are the part people underestimate

Pulling palings and rails off is quick. The footings are what determine how long a removal actually takes.

Old fences were footed in all sorts of ways, from a shovel of concrete to a substantial block. Some come out cleanly, some have to be broken out, and some sit where the new post needs to go, which means they have to come out whether you like it or not.

This is a large part of why removal is priced from a site measure rather than by the metre.

Access and disposal

Everything that comes off the boundary has to get back out to the street. On a property with a wide driveway that is straightforward. On a rear yard reached by a narrow side path, it is the job.

Bring up your access at the measure, and take a photo of the side path and any steps if you can. It changes the quote more than most people expect.

Removal with or without a new fence

Most removal work happens as part of a replacement, and it is quoted together with the new fence. That is usually the most efficient way to do it, because the same visit handles both.

Removal on its own can also be quoted, for example where a wall or fence is coming out as part of other work on the property.
